Nursing Home, Sligo, Ireland

Completed in 2004, this 40 bed nursing home is located on Ireland's northwest coastline. Overlooking the Atlantic the building creating an urban edge to the suburban development of the adjoining village. The sea facing south facade has a saw tooth pattern to create a human scale and to provide sheltered outdoor spaces for residents to sit. With a green roof, timber frame and a 'breathing' wall structure for a more healthy internal environment, ecological building principles were incorporated throughout. Internally the building is arranged along an internal 'street' to encourage social interaction and activity amongst residents.
